May I introduce myself? Barbara is my name, traveling is my passion, hotels my passion, tourism science and consulting my vocations.

With 20 years of professional experience, numerous hotel visits, hotelier talks and a dissertation on the topic of guest perception in hotels, I have come to the conclusion to pass on my knowledge in the form of a practical tool to my companions in the hotel industry.

Three stories from my life gave me the idea:

My orchid collection – for me a dream of a sea of flowers in my former attic apartment. That’s how I saw it. But after the visit of a friend, who without further ado shared with me her view of the ugly root system of orchids, I too could no longer look away from this wild growth. She was right! It was not pretty. And I had to admit: Seen daily and yet never noticed.

Give feedback I am often asked about this by hotel customers, it is part of my job. It can turn out well or badly. For me, this is often a delicate situation: On one hand, I want the best for my hotel clients, but on the other hand, I’m typically sitting across from someone whose heart and soul are invested in the hotel. My conclusion: Personal insight is often more helpful than external feedback.

Embracing the New – for years, I’ve been doing something each week that I’ve never done before. It could be something small, like changing the side of the bed, or a significant journey. In this way, I sharpen my clear view of the familiar and remain open to the unknown.

Do I have to sleep in every room?

No, of course not. Of course you can try every room ;). If your time allows, I recommend testing each category.

What do I need to perform the Hotelcheck+?

Depending on whether you have opted for the digital or printed Hotelcheck+, you can complete the questionnaire either with a mobile device (e.g. tablet) or with a ballpoint pen and clipboard.

In addition, you will need a smartphone (or camera) and white socks and a tape measure. Ideally you will stay at the hotel and bring your partner with you and come with 2 toilet bags.

Does the questionnaire have to be done in order?

No, you decide in which order you want to perform the Hotelcheck+.
